Our Family Trip to Bora Bora!

Bora Bora had always been a favorite destination for us—the overwater bungalows, the crystal-clear lagoon, and the promise of ultimate relaxation. This time, instead of heading to French Polynesia a couple, we were bringing along our energetic toddler, adding a new layer of adventure to the trip! And a whole new layer of magic, too.

Getting There: Yes, it’s worth the flight!

The journey to Bora Bora is undeniably long, especially with a little one in tow. We flew into Tahiti and then took a short flight to Bora Bora. To keep our toddler entertained, we packed a variety of snacks, toys, and downloaded his favorite shows. The highlight? Watching his eyes light up as we approached the stunning turquoise waters from the plane.

Where We Stayed: Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

We chose the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora for its renowned family-friendly amenities, and it did not disappoint. Our overwater bungalow was not only luxurious but also thoughtfully equipped for families. The resort had a crib ready upon our arrival, along with toddler-sized bathrobes and baby bath products. The spacious deck allowed us to relax while our son napped inside, and the direct lagoon access meant spontaneous swims were a daily delight.

How to get free perks when booking the FS Bora Bora for reading the Jetset Fam!

Kids For All Seasons Program

One of the standout features of the resort is the “Kids For All Seasons” program, hosted at the Tamarii Club. Designed for children aged 5 to 12, the club offers a range of activities from hermit crab races to coconut painting. Our son was a bit young for the unaccompanied activities, but the staff welcomed us to join in, and he loved the outdoor playground and fun splash pad.

Dining with kids in Bora Bora: So good!

Dining with a toddler can be challenging, but the Four Seasons made it remarkably easy. A delightful perk is that children under 5 eat free at every meal (!!!) which is such a great perk for families. The staff was incredibly accommodating, preparing simple, toddler-friendly meals upon request. We often opted for early dinners by the beach, allowing our son to play in the sand while we enjoyed the sunset.

Where we also stayed for an extra couple nights & liked, too: Le Bora Bora

If you’re looking for a resort that doesn’t break the bank as much as the Four Seasons, check out Le Bora Bora. We headed there for a couple nights when we decided to extend our trip (and the FS was booked!) and we are so glad we did! This was a great option and a truly stunning resort (recently remodeled in 2021!). You may miss the 5-star food + service of the FS, but besides that it’s a great base for your trip to French Polynesia – and a great beach!

Activities: Making the Most of Paradise

  • The beach: The calm, shallow waters of the lagoon & beach at the resort were perfect for our toddler. We spent hours wading, hanging out in the sand, drinking (virgin for my son) pina coladas, and spotting colorful fish. Bringing along a small inflatable float was fun for him too! (here’s the one we brought)
  • Private Boat Tour: We booked a private lagoon tour to explore the surrounding waters at our own pace. The highlight was snorkeling with reef sharks and stingrays. While our son stayed on the boat during the deeper swims, he was mesmerized by the marine life and even got to dip in the shallower areas with our guidance.

Staying in an Overwater Bungalow with a Toddler: Tips and Insights

Staying in an overwater bungalow with a toddler requires some additional considerations:

  • Safety Measures: Before booking, inquire about childproofing options. At the Four Seasons Bora Bora, we requested acrylic panels to be installed over the deck railings, providing an added layer of security. citeturn0search0
  • Supervision: Always supervise your child when on the deck or near water. While the views are mesmerizing, safety is paramount.
  • Amenities: Utilize the resort’s amenities designed for children. The Four Seasons provided us with a crib, high chair, and even baby-proofed the room upon request.
